Project Profile
A 624-Unit Multi-Level Facility in the Silicon Slopes.
- 624-unit climate-controlled facility
- Multi-level heavy-gauge steel structure
- Drive-through loading breezeway
- Corrugated and smooth metal envelope
Cubes Self Storage sits in Draper at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, in the Silicon Slopes corridor where land near I-15 carries a price that rewards building vertical. The climate-controlled facility stacks 624 units across a multi-level footprint on just 1.51 acres, with a drive-through loading breezeway cut through the center of the lower floors so tenants can load and unload under cover, out of the Draper weather.
The structure is a heavy-gauge steel stud bearing-wall system carrying poured concrete decks that bear directly on the framing. Interior storage corridors, unit partitions, and roll-up door openings all follow that structural grid, and corrugated and smooth metal wall panels close the commercial envelope around the conditioned space. It is a textbook piece of multi-story self-storage structure, engineered to hold the floor loads of stored goods without surrendering rentable geometry.
Completed in March 2018, the building answers a dense, high-income submarket the way vertical self-storage is meant to. The breezeway keeps loading sheltered, the climate-controlled interior protects everything from electronics to seasonal gear, and the multi-level plan turns a small parcel into far more rentable area than a row of drive-up units could. Draper runs one of the busier storage corridors in the south valley, and the building is put together to hold up to that use.
Johnson Construction’s work at Cubes is exactly the kind of multi-level, climate-controlled self-storage construction the company is known for along the Wasatch Front. Heavy-gauge steel, poured concrete decks, a sealed conditioned envelope, and a full run of roll-up doors and interior corridors all have to come together as one operating facility, and at Cubes they do.
